Amazon this year launched their latest low-cost Alexa-powered smart speaker, the third-generation Echo Dot at a budget-friendly £50 ($60). The Echo Dot is Amazon’s small smart speaker featuring the tech giant’s Alexa voice assistant built in. But some Amazon Alexa users are confused by the Echo Dot’s flashing yellow lights – here is what they mean. The mysterious yellow flashing ring on the Amazon Echo Dot is a notification.

Many users will not have been aware about this, as Amazon has rolled this out as a soft launch without any announcement in the last month.

Alexa is aware what its users are buying because of its close integration with their Amazon account.

Customers have long been used to receiving emails confirming order dispatch and alerts from the Amazon shopping app on your phone and Alexa is now also aware.

Although this is a really helpful update for those living alone, Amazon may have inadvertently made it difficult for those who like some discretion.

How to turn-off Amazon Echo Dot yellow flashing light:

Begin by asking Alexa on your Echo if you have any notifications, as the flashing light could either be a notification or a message.

Once you have heard the message, the yellow flashing light should vanish.

To deactivate notifications off, start by opening the Amazon Alexa app on your phone.

Then open the menu and select Settings and then select Notifications then Amazon Shopping.

This allows users to control what Alexa is going to inform you and you can toggle off “out for delivery” or “delivered” notifications.

But remember, notifications can be a useful to function for those living in areas where deliveries are left on the doorstep.

How to hide what you have ordered from Alexa:

Your Amazon Alexa will announce what is being delivered, making it simple for anyone in your household to discover what you have ordered from Amazon.

Here is a simple step-step guide to hiding what you have ordered from Alexa.

Start by opening the Alexa app on your phone, then open the menu and tap Settings.

Then select Notifications then Amazon Shopping.

You will then be presented with the Give Ordered Items’ Titles section.

You will then have the option to deactivate this, meaning Alexa will no longer inadvertently reveal that surprise gift for a loved one.

Folding these steps will mean users can still ask Alexa “where’s my stuff” and be informed of the delivery, without revealing what the package is.

It can also be worthwhile deactivating Amazon voice purchasing on Echo devices too.

This feature allows anyone buy anything on your account, meaning it could be worth deactivating for those living with children.
