Cable Girls, also known as Las chicas del cable, season four is available to stream and download on Netflix now. There are eight episodes in the new series of Cable Girls. Cable Girls was Netflix’s first-ever Spanish original and features a female-led cast, including Ana Fernández, Nadia de Santiago, Blanca Suárez and Maggie Civantos. Express.co.uk spoke to John Platt, Market Manager at Madrid based global tour agency Civitatis, to find out more about the filming locations of Cable Girls.

Where is it Cable Girls season 4 filmed and set?

Cable Girls is a Spanish period drama and the fourth season is set in the early 1930s.

The series follows four women – Lydia, Marga, Carlota and Ángele, who work at a new telecommunications company in Madrid.

A huge part of the Cable Girls plot is the challenges working women faced in early 20th century Spain.

The telephone company, run by the Cifuentes family, employed over 1,000 people in the 1920s and 1930s and the majority of them were women.

The series follows them as they fight for women’s rights in a patriarchal society and in the fourth season, Carlota (played by Ana Fernández) even runs for Mayor of Madrid.

Cable Girls is filmed on location in and around Madrid, including the Gran Via and Atocha.

Civitatis, in Madrid, has even launched a Cable Girls tour of Madrid, where you can walk in the footsteps of Lydia, Marga, Carlota and Ángele.

The Telefónica building where the women work is filmed in the real Fundación Telefónica building in Madrid.

The building is Madrid’s first skyscraper and is considered to be one of the largest telephone operators and mobile network providers in the world.

In the building, the first-ever transatlantic telephone call, between Spanish King Alfonso XIII and US President Calvin Coolidge took place – as dramatised in series one of Cable Girls.

The bar where the women visit after work – El Cafe – is inspired by the real El Espejo restaurant situated in Madrid’s city centre.

John Platt, Market Manager of Civitatis in Madrid told Express.co.uk: “While Spain’s beaches are well known, along with beachside cities such as Barcelona and Malaga, what a series such as Cable Girls does is show the romance of Madrid, the capital.

“With the city’s history, style, cultural life and stunning architecture all on display, it inspires tourists to explore Spain beyond the beach, and plays a key part in broadening the country’s touristic offering.”

Other notable filming locations for Cable Girls included the la Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando, Casino de Madrid, Banco de España and La Plaza del Alamillo.

Madrid locals will also recognise the Atocha Train Station, Restaurante Asia Gallery and Lope de Vega which also feature in Cable Girls.

You can also visit the Pensión Dolores, where the Cable Girls live, which is seconds from the plaza del Alamillo.
