Cristiano Ronaldo 'very happy' at Juventus as his inner circle rubbish links with Barcelona

Cristiano Ronaldo ‘very happy’ at Juventus as his inner circle rubbish links with Barcelona as ‘completely false’ and insist Portuguese star will see out £28m-a-year contract until 2022 in pursuit of sixth Champions League success

  • There have been suggestions this week Ronaldo was offered to Barcelona
  • It comes with Juventus keen to offload the forward’s £28m-a-year salary
  • But Ronaldo’s inner circle has dismissed the reports as ‘completely false’
  • They insist the 33-year-old is ‘very happy’ living in Turin and at Juventus
  • Ronaldo was linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain earlier in the season

Cristiano Ronaldo’s camp have emphatically denied suggestions the star has been offered to Barcelona and insisted he is ‘very happy’ at Juventus.

The Spanish journalist Guillem Balague claimed that Juventus are desperate to offload Ronaldo’s £28million-per-year salary.

They reportedly offered him to Europe’s elite clubs, including Barcelona, which would have raised the tantalising prospect of him playing alongside Lionel Messi.

But Spanish newspaper AS quote one of Ronaldo’s representatives describing the Barcelona link as ‘completely false’.

The 33-year-old has spent two seasons at Juventus and is contracted until 2022 and his inner circle insist he will remain in Turin and seek the sixth Champions League success of his illustrious career.

He did, of course, spend nine seasons with Barcelona’s bitter rivals Real Madrid, winning four of his Champions League titles there.

Earlier in the season, Ronaldo was linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain by the French media because of a desire to link up with Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.

Juventus won another Serie A title this season but their hopes of conquering Europe again were dashed by Lyon at the last-16 stage.

AS report Ronaldo’s representative saying the Portuguese star is ‘very happy’ living in Turin and has no intention of leaving for Barcelona or anywhere else.

It comes after another excellent goalscoring season for Ronaldo with 37 goals in addition to seven assists in all competitions.

He scored twice in the second leg of the tie against Lyon but couldn’t score the third needed to prevent Juve crashing out on away goals.

‘He’s been offered everywhere, including Barcelona,’ Balague told 5 Live Sport.

‘I’m not sure if they can get rid of him easily with the kind of money he earns. Who is going to pay that kind of money?’

Reports by Sportmediaset in Italy suggested Juventus can only hold on to one of their top earners – Ronaldo and Paulo Dybala – as the financial impact of Covid-19 bites.

They also need to raise funds so new manager Andrea Pirlo can strengthen his squad with at least one striker, a right-back and a winger.
