Masood (played Nitin Ganatra) is best known as a ladies man after striking up a relationship with Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth) amongst many others and asking her to move with him to Australia. However, the EastEnders star has hinted to fans that there could be a possible return to Albert Square in an interview on ITV’s Lorraine.
Masood left the square earlier this year for his son, Tamwar Masood’s (Himesh Patel) wedding and asked his love interest, Kathy, to go with him.
Kathy declined after hearing Ian Beale’s (Adam Woodyatt) disapproval who suggested she be there for him as a mother for a change.
The soap star appeared on Lorraine this morning as he discussed what viewers can expect with presenter, Christine Lampard.
After Christine put it to Nitin that his character drove into the sunset meaning he could return, Nitin shared his thoughts.
“His out in the wilderness somewhere I think round a campfire,” he responded.
Christine pressed, insisting Masood could technically go back to the BBC soap one day.
Nitin didn’t want to give too much away as he said: “Masood is lovely. I love him, and I still think there’s much to find in him, and I have a lot of respect for EastEnders and the way they really work hard at producing stories that keep people interested.
“So who knows, one day I’ll go back… if they want me, as well,” he continued.
Masood left Eastenders in 2016 before returning the following year so a comeback is possible.
Speaking about his exit earlier this year, Nitin spoke about his experience of playing the beloved postman.
He said: “I am still deeply attached to Masood and have invested much emotion into making this character memorable.
“I am in awe of how loved he is by audiences and fans of all ages, from all cultures and religions and walks of life.”
Fans would be excited to see Masood back on the popular soap after his shock exit left many fans disappointed.
Just when Masood was about to leave, his nieces Iqra Ahmed (Priya Davdra) and Habiba Ahmed (Rukku Nahar) turned up to look after Walford East for him.
He eventually agreed to their offer until the new owner got hold of it.
Over the years, Masood has had some interesting storylines since his arrival in 2007, a major one being his affair with Jane Beale (Laurie Brett).
Fans have seen Masood’s darkest moments when his marriage broke down with Zainab (Nina Wadia) and his disapproval of his son, Syed’s (Mark Elliot) homosexuality.
There seemed to be some light under the tunnel for Masood when he started his romance with Kathy but that was cut short when Ian defused the spark between the pair.
After appearing as a guest in Tamwar’s wedding, Kathy made the decision to return to Walford while Masood stayed in Australia.
EastEnders returns tonight at 7.30pm on BBC One.
