Almost 25 years after Friends first aired on TV screens, one former star of the classic sitcom has spilled all on what shocking moment viewers may have missed.

Rachel Green’s (played by Jennifer Aniston) boyfriend, Paolo star Cosimo Fusco was introduced in The One With The Blackout while Rachel was trying to find the owner of a lost cat.

Paolo spoke very little English and was often confused by some of the things Rachel would say.

Now, Cosimo has revealed a surprising behind-the-scenes secret fans may have missed.

In the lead up to the sitcom’s 25th anniversary, he told The Today Show: “I was asked to improvise.”

“I was a little bit skeptical, because my English then wasn’t as good as it is now, let’s face it.

“But I was told not to speak any English. ‘Just say whatever you want in Italian.’”

Cosimo went on to admit he “made up” a number of his lines.

“I made up most of the Italian spoken by Paolo,” he confessed.

“When I’m standing by the window with Jennifer, and I say, ‘Look at the moon, look at the stars.’ … I just made up those lines.”

When asked what he thought of Friends star Jennifer, he revealed: “She was a lovely, adorable young woman — a very talented actress.”

Ross Geller (David Schwimmer), who was jealous of his relationship with Rachel, took advantage of Paolo’s lack of English and made fun of him whenever he could.

Despite the pair playing love-rivals in the sitcom, Cosimo praised his “incredibly talented” co-star David.

Cosimo went on to explain why he thinks Friends was such a massive hit.

He began: “The combination of the six [actors] was amazing, the chemistry was amazing.”

“And they were so generous with me, because they understood that I was a young guy from Italy thrown into a sitcom.”

Cosimo continued: “I think the magic was just the combination of the individuals.

“And the topics — the coming of age and dealing with everyone’s problems.

“Because I think we can all recognise ourselves in their problems,” he added.

“If you watch an episode of Friends, you can still smile at things. You know, you recognise yourself in there still.”

Friends is available on Netflix.
