Agustin Roseti, an MP for the far-right Vox party, posted a rant to Twitter slamming Britain for turning the island, which borders the north of Spain, into a “parasite”. He argued Spanish ownership of the island could bolster his country’s military efforts. He added under British control the island poses a risk to Spaniards.
He said: “Gibraltar is a military colony in the strait that has a naval base and airfield.
“It fulfils three missions: logistics, operational and intelligence.
“The military are the ones in charge.
“A foreign base in our soil poses significant risks to Spaniards.”
In the angry attack, he claimed Britain is stealing a valuable military base and taking Spanish workers.
He said: “Spanish workers are used as hostages by the Gibraltar government.
“Without them, Gibraltar’s economy could not survive.
“It is Gibraltar who depends on Spain and not vice versa, as the threat of Brexit is demonstrating.”

“With Brexit we can restore the conditions prior to Spain’s entry into the EU and facilitate the reintegration of Gibraltar into Spain, forcing the UK to negotiate.”
Roseti also claimed the UK is breaking UN rules by not engaging in negotiations about the ownership of Gibraltar.
Gibraltar is at the centre of an international territorial row.
It has just announced it is to free an Iranian tanker which has been held since July 4.
The Iranian oil tanker, Grace 1, was stopped by Royal Marines on July 4 after the Gibraltar government suggested it was heading for Syria, which would breach EU sanctions.
The seizure of the tanker sparked a diplomatic crisis between the UK and Iran, which escalated when Iran seized a British-flagged tanker, the Stena Impero.
The Stena Impero, a Swedish-owned vessel, remains anchored in the Iranian port of Bandar Abbas, 27 days after being detained.
Tensions between the US and Iran have been deteriorating rapidly over the past year, and shortly before the release of Grace 1 was announced, the US made a last-minute plea to stop it.
They request allegedly requested to have the vessel turned over to the USA, but it has not been approved by Gibraltar.
