Novak Djokovic Jokes About ‘Connection’ with Wimbledon Grass After Defeating Kevin Anderson
Novak Djokovic, the World No. 1, showcased his exceptional form during his second-round match at Wimbledon, securing a straight-sets victory over Kevin Anderson with a score of 6-3, 6-3, 6-3. Despite the win, Djokovic couldn’t resist making a light-hearted comment about his unusual experiences with the Wimbledon grass this year.
Easy Victory
In a post-match interview, Djokovic humorously remarked on his “really nice connection with the grass,” noting that he had fallen more often during his first two matches than he ever remembered in previous tournaments. His comment comes in the wake of injuries suffered by fellow players Adrian Mannarino and Serena Williams, who both withdrew from the tournament after slipping on the grass surface.
Reflecting on the match, Djokovic expressed his joy at playing in front of fans once again, something he and other players had missed due to the pandemic. “We are used to playing in front of crowds but in the last 18 months that hasn’t been the case and I’m just super happy to see all of you guys on the court. It’s wonderful, thank you so much,” Djokovic shared with the audience.
Ambitious Player
Djokovic, who is chasing his sixth Wimbledon title, described his performance against Anderson as “almost flawless.” He acknowledged the challenge posed by Anderson’s powerful serve but was pleased with his own ability to remain solid without taking unnecessary risks.
“I knew that Kevin was going to serve big, and I was not going to have too many chances to break his serve. So I might as well try to play solid but not too risky. I’ve done much better than I thought I would do,” Djokovic commented.
Djokovic’s playful remarks and dominant performance have further cemented his status as a favorite to win the tournament, with his coach seemingly having little to complain about after such a convincing win.
