While she wasn’t filmed making the call her voice was recorded and formed part of the wider video message.
The Queen’s age has led some to speculate as to whether the coronavirus pandemic could push her into retirement.
However, one royal commentator has dismissed these rumours and claimed the Queen views her position as a lifelong role.
Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams told Express.co.uk: “There have from time to time been a series of rumours about the Queen stepping down in favour of Charles.
“Recently the Queen has turned 94 and is in virtual self-isolation at Windsor together with Prince Philip, who is 99 in June.
“This has fuelled further speculation that we might not be able to see her again, given the dangers posed, especially to the elderly, by COVID-19.
“What we have actually seen during the lockdown are two truly impressive broadcasts by the Queen. They were deeply moving and lovingly crafted.”
