Manchester United signed James from Swansea back in the summer and, on Sunday, the Wales international enjoyed the perfect debut for his new club.
The 21-year-old came off the bench against Chelsea with the game already in the bag but added gloss with a late goal.
James was visibly emotional, pointing to the sky in tribute to his father, who died shortly before his move to United.
And Beckham loved seeing the youngster get off the mark, commenting on a picture posted by United’s official Instagram account.
“That’s how players should celebrate when scoring in this shirt at our stadium @daniel_james97 @manchesterunited,” he said.
His comment has been liked a huge 29,395 times at the time of writing.
United fans loved Beckham’s words, with one saying: “That simple but strong advice is what we need from the former players.”
Another said: “Yes Becks.
A third added: “Legend words.”
And a fourth chipped in with: “Let em know becks.”
United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admitted after the Chelsea win that he was delighted to see James win.
“I’m sure he will remember that for his whole life,” said the Norwegian.
“He’s had a tough summer with his personal life as well and to start his career like this, I’m so pleased for him.”
James himself said: “I don’t think you can sum it up.
“To come here and score on my debut is a dream come true. Ever since I’ve come here I’ve dreamt of that and to do it on my debut is amazing.”
James could feature when United face Wolves at Molineux on Monday.
The Red Devils have endured some chastening trips there in recent times, losing twice to Nuno Esparto Santo’s team last season.
